One Shadow, Three Ways

Here are three different ways to apply eyeshadow.

1. To create a deep, dramatic effect, wet your brush before patting it onto the shadow. This will make the hue look darker and more intense.

2. To create a wash of color, lightly dab a dry brush into shadow and sweep it over your lid. This is great for day or when you want a sheer effect.

3. To create a smudged-liner look, dip a small, stiff liner brush into the shadow and rim your lashes. Tap off excess first to avoid spillover.

Bangs

Bangs are a great and easy way to change up your look. Heavy bangs with blunt bottoms shorten a long face but overwhelm a round or wide face. While long, sideswept bangs work on any face shape.

Favorite Styles and Cuts

Here are some of my favorite hair styles and cuts.

Straight Hair

When straightening you hair work on thin sections of hair. If you use too thick of sections the heat won't be able to penetrate your hair and it won't get completely smooth. The thicker and curlier yours is, the thinner the amount you should straighten at once.

Don't flat-iron damp hair unless you are using a wet-to-dry iron. It can burn your hair and change the texture, making it rough and dry.

When straightening the back, make a middle back part and flop a side over each shoulder so you can see what you are doing.

Don't turn the heat up to high. If you have fine hair, 250 degrees is all you need. If your hair is coarse, you should go higher.

To keep ends piecey, use pomade. Use a heat protectant spray before you straighten to help lessen damage done.

Red Lips

Wearing red lipstick is a bold look without trying to hard. With red lips you barely need to apply any more makeup. To get the perfect red lips first line your lips with a neutral shade. This way you can perfect the shape of your mouth while still looking natural. Then choose the right shade of red. If your skin is fair pick a bright fire engine red. If you have a dark complexion go for a warm brownish red. Use a brush to fill in your lips. This helps the color stay on better. For even longer lasting wear, blot lips and then reapply lipstick. To avoid lipstick-stained teeth, purse your lips around a finger to remove excess color. The lipstick will transfer onto your finger instead of rubbing off on your teeth.

Bright Nails

Layer on two coats of bright nail polish, then finish with a clear protective polish. Bright nails look best on short to medium nail lengths. Some of my favorites are Plugged-in Plum, Goin' Ape-ricot!, Can't You Sea?, and That's All Bright with Me, all by OPI.

More Fast Fixes

Stiff Hairspray Gently dismantle a stiff section by combing through it from the ends up to the roots. Rub a dime size dollop of hand cream between your hands and run your fingers through the over-sprayed spot to take away the crackle and add moisture.

Cakey Face Powder Use MAC Quick Fix+, a moisturizing spray containing glycerin, to give skin a smooth finish without a chalky appearance. Hold the bottle six inches from your face, close your eyes, and spray twice, letting the mist fall onto your skin. You can also use Evian mist or an herbal face toner. After spritzing, lay a tissue over your face to absorb excess moisture.

Perfume Overdose Rub skin with an unscented baby wipe or a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. To vaporize a scent that you've oversprayed on clothing, blast fabric with a hairdryer for 30 seconds.

Peeling Blemish Rub a bit of creamy cleanser onto the pimple in a circular motion. Dab on 1% hydrocortisone cream to further calm skin, then apply a creamy concealer and powder to set the coverage.

Too-Light Highlights Wash your hair twice with a caramel-hued color-depositing shampoo to deepen blond highlights and adds the right amount of rich honey color.

Fast Fixes

Hair Serum Overload If you have put on too much hair serum and don't have enough time to wash it out, wear a wide headband or scarf near the hairline. You can also use baby powder. Just scrunch hair with dusty hands instead of applying powder directly to hair.

Too Much Blush or Bronzer Sprinkle translucent powder on a makeup sponge and blend it over the too bright color. Blend the color in toward the apple of the cheek. Then go over the color with two drops of foundation on a makeup wedge to pick up the excess pigment and adds back natural tone.

Bangs Cut Too Short Pull the middle two inch sections of your bangs into the air and twist it into a point. Then lay it straight back on your head and insert a comb toward your forehead. If you have a pixie cut, comb to one side with gel and secure with a bobby pin.

Clumpy Mascara Wipe all the formula off your mascara wand with a piece of paper napkin or paper towel and wiggle it gently from side to side from the roots to the tips. To prevent future clumps, run a a spare toothbrush or old mascara wand through the dishwasher and keep it on hand when applying next time.

Smudged Polish Dip the pad of a finger from the opposite hand into nail polish remover and gently blend away the smear. Add a coat of clear polish instead of more color.

Over-treated Skin To reduce redness and irritation caused by glycolic washes and chemical exfoliants, soak a washcloth in equal parts ice water and whole milk and place on your face for 10 minutes. Wear peach foundation primer because it mutes redness.

Flawless Skin

How to get flawless skin:

Wear sunscreen year-round. Even while you are young, doing this can prevent wrinkles. A sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays is best. If you have oily skin use a gel-based sunblock. Gel-based sunblocks are less likely to clog pores because they contain a little bit of alcohol.

Try a mild at-home skin peel. Using a glycolic peel kit exfoliates your face, clears pores, and stimulates the production of collagen. It can also help prevent breakouts.

Choose the right moisturizer. Don't use heavy creams unless your skin is very dry. They often cause breakouts. Instead use a light moisturizer.

Other things that help your skin are exercising, drinking a lot of water, getting the proper amount of sleep, and relaxation. Things that are harmful to your skin are smoking, too much alcohol, stress, yo-yo dieting, and overcleansing.

Show Off Your Freckles

Have freckles but don't want makeup to cover them up? Here are some tips on how to show them off. Instead of using foundation, use a tinted moisturizer that is warmer than you natural color. You should stay away from blue-pink blushes, which make freckles look ashy. Try a peachy cheek stain so your freckles stay visible.
